Macy's Great American Marching Band Announces First 2009 Members

On November 26, 2009, a proud musical tradition will continue!  With the success of the inaugural band in 2006 and the 2007 and 2008 Macy's Great American Marching Band, Macy's has asked MUSIC FESTIVALS to once again continue to be their proud partner with The Macy's Great American Marching Band for the 83rd annual Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade .  Honoring America's finest high school musicians, this band will be comprised of select students from each of the fifty states. The musicians are under the direction of Dr. Jon Woods, Ohio State University, and Auburn University's Dr. Richard Good.  The 185 musicians will be complemented by approximately 50 flags and dancers choreographed by Greg Lagola of the famed Cadets Drum Corp of Pennsylvania.

The Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade is internationally recognized as the official start of the holiday season and world-famous as a uniquely American entertainment extravaganza.

Once again, this prestigious band will take an honor position among the gigantic helium balloons, impressive floats carrying celebrities, and the nation's top marching bands. Stepping-off from Central Park, the Band will be cheered by the 2.5 million spectators lining the parade route. Arriving at Macy's Herald Square, the Band will perform for celebrity hosts, a grandstand audience, and more than 50 million TV viewers watching the broadcast live on NBC.

In addition to marching in the parade, all selected participants' package plans will include meals, lodging and New York City sightseeing.  Are you ready to be a part of The Macy's Great American Marching Band?  Click on the "Brochure & Application" link above to download an application.

We are now accepting applications for 2009. Selections will be based on written application and on submitted audition DVD/CDs.

"Slots by state and position are limited.  Deadlines for rolling admission are March 30th, May 30th, June 30th.  Apply early for the best chance of selection as openings by state and or instrument/position can close at anytime after the first deadline."

Applicants that are accepted for the March 30th deadline will be notified no later than May 1st.  Applicants accepted for the May 30th deadline will be notified no later than June 30th, and the June 30th applicants who are accepted will be notified no later than July 15th.

The Band Hall, TN, is supplying the Band's custom uniforms and Jupiter, TX, is supplying the brass instruments, while Mapex by Jupiter, TX, is supplying the percussion instruments.  Gadsden Music, an official distributor for Jupiter and Mapex will be handling and maintaining all of the instruments throughout MGAMB week.
